Havana (B)

Breakfast. This morning we have arranged some special visits for you to learn about Cuban art and artists. First, head for the outskirts of the city, to make a visit to the workshop and home of internationally-renowned artist Jose Fuster in Playa Jaimanitas.  Fuster has turned his home and neighborhood into a masterpiece of tiles, turrets and, one might say, “Gaudí-esque beauty”. Next, stop in at the photo gallery and studio of the famed Cuban photographer,  Roberto Salas.  Later, back in central Havana, visit an urban art project called “Callejón Hamel” which celebrates Afro-Cuban culture and traditions. Continue and leave Havana to a community about 25 minutes east of the city where you will visit “La Finca Vigía”, the former residence of the legendary American writer Ernest Hemingway. Finally, stop at the fisherman’s village of Cojimar, where Hemingway was inspired to write “The Old Man and the Sea”. A walking tour takes you to Hemingway’s statue, made from old anchors, props, and tools salvaged by local fishermen.
